Pique Dame

Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky

opera | 2016

Yep! That’s me you see on the right, dressed as composer Pjotr Iljitsj Tchaikovsky. In 2016 I was casted at the Dutch National Opera for their Pique Dame production directed by Stefan Herheim. I had the great honor of performing with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra conducted by Mariss Jansons. The role included several acting scenes and the live accompaniment on stage of mezzo-soprano Anna Goryachova in Polina’s aria.

We had nine performances at the Dutch National Opera in Amsterdam during the Holland Festival 2016. It was broadcasted live on operavision.eu and released on DVD & Blu-Ray. You can order a copy via www.operaballet.nl

Pique Dame was co produced with the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, London.

Pique Dame

Synopsis

The protagonist Hermann stakes everything on gambling, in the belief that he knows a secret formula that will prevent him from losing at cards. This is not the case, however, and Herman commits suicide. He thus becomes the third victim of his own compulsive gambling behaviour – after the old Countess, who was supposed to know the secret, and Lisa, who was in love with him.
